What anti-virus do you use?

Windows defender and Malwarebytes will be good for the average user with a clean up on CCleaner. If you want added protection (paid) then go with Kaspersky, they're the best out there in my opinion.

I see few use Avast here, i also used Avast before. It was good and light, but i heard that Avast got into some controversy. That they shared its users password to third party.

I do not use an Anti Virus. It's a waste of time for me because I do not do anything out of the ordinary on my PC
If you use the internet hackers in the form of automated software and real human hackers are trying to breach your security and get into your computer. Not having any protection against that is a very risky strategy. You should probably consider one of the free antivirus options mentioned in this topic.

If you are connected to Internet it is better you have an Antivirus Installed to monitor the inbound and outbound traffic. An AV is not needed when the PC won't be connected to Internet at all.

I purchased Kaspersky the other day. It was on offer for 2 years, thought why not! It's been doing a good job so far but I still have yet to learn a few bits and bobs about it.

That is good JoyFreak, do share your experience of the AV after good amount of use. I love Kaspersky and never had the opportunity to try the paid one.

I used it few years back, the free version anyway and loved it. But it seems like they've added more features to it. I have yet to learn more of the AV but atm it seems like it's doing some weird things that I need to understand.

Just basic one that came with OS. I want to get an all in one program but no idea what is any good. My laptop really needs a good one as it's full of issues that need fixing.

If you want an all in one suite, try Internet Security pack from Antivirus providers. They give you system cleanup, gaming mode, boosting up your pc etc ..

Do they actually get rid of viruses/malware/etc or just quarantine?

Ah yes I've heard of that one. I've been told it's one of the good free AV's. I did use it once a while back but felt like it lacked in some features.
Wait, it's free? I had to pay for it as part of a Humble Bundle...

Hmm i believe few get rids of it complete and few suites keep it quarantine and delete it in next update. I am not sure about it though.

I thought it was? I checked and there's a free version. Unless the one you are using is the paid one, with a lot more features.
I think I'm using the paid one. Otherwise it'd mean I got ripped off, and humble bundle is usually pretty good about not doing that xD

I have been using Kaspersky for 3 computers and 2 smartphones so far. That's like 34 USD a year.
I have been using it for 5 years now and I am really pleased with it's performance. I would recommend it to others as well and by the way, I use the internet security version not just the antivirus version. So, it's a little expensive but as I have my company apps installed in my phone and computer, I can't really take the security lightly.

Well, then I have heard even Norton Symantec is also good. I don't think I will give it a try but it's like an after thought

Yeah, most probably the premium version which has A LOT more security and features than the free version, so you're safe :).
