Is dating broken?

Yes.
I know a somewhat younger single guy who lives in a large city not far from here.
He now refuses to go on blind dates At All because he is afraid if he tries to hold her hand walking into the theater, or God Forbid, kiss her good night, that he'll end up getting hit with sexual assault charges and lose his job at a hospital with a "zero tolerance" policy.

Dating today does feel broken, but honestly, it wasn’t great before either, just messed up in different ways.

Dating is broken beyond repair in modern times. This is due in large part to social medial, but also covid. and both reasons are intertwined. In terms of covid, I know people whose kids were covid babies. They grew up in isolation and homeschool. They are severely clingy towards their parents and lack any confidence, nor are they comfortable around strangers.
In terms of social media, social media has become a horrible addiction for today's youth - and hell, even some older folks. Jokes are made on tv shows about kids texting someone in the same room, but those are the reality in some cases. When kids today are struggling to even talk to their family, it's no wonder that, as they get older, dating is impossible. I think the only people now who can date normally are those of us in their 30s and up, because we didn't go through the same shit.
Going back to the social media aspect, tiktok specifically, has fostered a low attention span in youth. There are people, not just kids, but people in their 20s, who can't focus for too long. I remember when ADHD was something people had from birth, not something they developed from icktok. Now, mos people expect everything to be short. Videos, conversations, etc.

Absolutely. Between the lack of morality, responsibility and self-respect, its a mess. And no one seems to actually care because they can use the excuse of being in an open relationship and to treat their man or woman like trash because everyone is always the prize. Placing less value on the opposite party. On top of that there is no mutual understanding and the communication is abysmal. Its a failing idea that thankfully I am not and hopefully never will be a part of again. Its actually in the gutter.
I think society will do a full historical circle and it will eventually fix itself but that will only happen when society gets tired of the BS act that cheating, polyamorous practices that aren't natural and always leave something to be desired, abusive traits, toxic traits and narcisism is acceptable. May take a year, may take a century but modern society couldn't be complacent and accept this nonsense without losing their absolute mind. And most people already are.
If it doesn't change, that is also a good thing. The evil people just weed themselves out and the good people will be able to see each other a lot more clearly.
Me and my significant other were able to see each other clearly due to this modern day joke of a dating pool and my God this is the happiest I've ever been. I'm sure she would say the same.

People use "open relationships" as an excuse to cheat, plain and simple. Yes yes, I know, some people will reply and say if people are happy, it's fine. Here's the thing, there is only a very small percentage - I'd even say 1% - of open relationships that actually work. The fact is, most people are jealous and/or possessive. I'm not saying that in a negative way, because I can be the jealous type as well
Frankly, the jealousy gets even worse when three people are involved. Even if you started off okay with open relationships, eventually things go downhill.
Adding onto my message from a few days ago, another aspect to why dating is broken is because we keep flip flopping on gender roles in a relationship. In the olden days, women stayed at home and didn't work, while the man made the money. When a couple went out to eat, the man always paid. Men were expected to make the first move. Men were expected to keep their emotions to themselves and be stoic.
In modern times, we're trying to be "politically correct" and break the traditional norms. Empower women, women are independent and all these things. Yet, even in younger couples, people still hold onto outdated traditions. Thus, you have outdated traditions mixing in with new-age political correctness, and it doesn't work. Either we move on and adapt, or we re-embrace olden day gender roles. You can't have both.
It really feels like "poly/open" is the fad of the century that will fad away eventually. Personally, it can't be gone fast enough.
I think we as a country have a massive problem, and the finger is mainly being pointed at women.
Don't know and care even less because I don't date. Not interested and never have been.
It isn't just women. The media as an entity, and some men as a sub-segment of the group, share the blame, and then the politicians who overreact, usually all late and wrong, have their share coming as well.
