Do you miss the good old days when forums were popular?

Who are some friends you had back when they were big?

I do. I've had some good times and made some good friends on forums, some of whom I've met, and others I never did. As forum activity has dwindled, I've lost contact with quite a few of them. I've been a member of a couple of forums that had a females only section and I really miss that. It was a nice place to chat about female issues and other things that you didn't want guys to be privy to.

I understand that technology changes and nothing lasts forever, but there are tons of people over the years that I would like to reconnect with at some point. Doesn't have to be posting on a forum, but just knowing that they're doing okay IRL.

I haven't really reached the era where forums are more popular. Must be because I grew up a normie... if I could turn back time, I'd want to experience the old Internet era forums

That's a great question. I find that everything has changed, and forums definitely have a different feel than they did in the good old days.

The technology is so much better now, but the most important thing is missing. It feels like most people don't really know how to have a conversation on a forum anymore. I'm speaking generally for all the forums I've been on.

It often seems like people are just talking to themselves, not to each other. Many topics feel 'closed' like they are just statements to be read, not discussions to join. That's why I don't think they'll ever make a real comeback. That core part, the interaction, is gone.

Yeah, it's pretty much like this. Those social media posts are more like bulletins and quick stickies than discussions that the forum has. I've not been that active on the internet when forums are popular. But, I feel like it's the same in the number of people that're active? From my understanding, normies of yesteryear doesn't glue themselves on screen -- only by the invention of smartphones did they really flock to these doomscrolling social media thing. More niche forums may feel smaller but I concluded that it would be the same even before smartphones. But hey, it may attract some new bloods that want to stray away from the MSM (such as myself)

I do miss that time, but it's probably never going to be the same so no sense in longing for something that had its time in the spotlight.
