I see what he's saying, but it's nice, for instance, to have a new or strong used car on payments because crap cars break down.

Jason, as I'm sure you know, Dave Ramsey is local to Nashville. I've driven by Ramsey Solutions going down I-65 hundreds of times. I know plenty of people that swear up and down about his philosophies, but he preaches a lot of things that are completely unrealistic in today's world. He is all about having a credit score of zero and not taking a loan on anything at all. Not using credit cards at all. It is true that Americans are broke due to payments, especially with how astronomical interest rates are these days, but what choice do we have? We have to have a place to live, and that means having a mortgage, unless you want to play the rent game for the rest of your life, and that ultimately just means you're paying someone else's mortgage. You have to have reliable transportation, and that means signing up for a car note, unless you just happen to already have $20k sitting on the sideline. Some of us have been dealt better hands than others, but it doesn't matter how you spin it. You have to play this game in 2025.

Yeah, Ramsey is unrealistic because it's too extreme. Bottom line, you have to be responsible with borrowing, but it's impossible to make it without it, and better from banks etc. than from neighbors and family who are annoyed by it, right?
