    Oh I agree that digging out members that joined ages ago to welcome them is going a bit too far ! That seems more like an attempt to increase their post count than anything else.

    I don't play the lottery offline but I've entered this forum's lottery, if that counts. I wouldn't dream of sitting myself down at someone's table in a cafe and start joining in their conversation ! But online you can butt in just about anywhere

  16. Mass Email

    I don't like mass emails in my own inbox so I wouldn't clutter anyone else's with them. To be honest, I don't see the need for them. If I'm on a forum regularly, I can read announcements or there is the PM feature which I think is far more convenient as I'm on the forum already.

    To be honest, I can't even remember the first forum I joined, let alone why I joined it. Now though, I have a more active social life 'online' than I do 'offline'

  18. Faking it to get sympathy

    It's not something I've ever come across. It may not hurt anyone - except for the realisation that you've been 'taken for a ride', but I do think it can lead to mistrust.

    I also think sometimes, it's like saying 'Hi I'm new too'. It's like making a connection with others in your situation - ie, being the 'Newcomer'. I think it's not always easy to integrate yourself on a forum with members who've been there ages and also, a lot of times the other members...
