Calgary a winter wonderland in May

Calgarians traded in their slickers and umbrellas for parkas and mittens after rain turned to snow overnight, transforming the city into a winter wonderland Saturday morning.

Heather Smith, a meteorologist with the weather agency, said the snow was being generated by a strong low pressure system in the pacific pushing moisture into the province combined with an arctic high ushering in cold air.

“It’s a stagnant weather pattern and not much is changing,” Smith said on Saturday. “It will snow on and off for the next few days.”

It's not snowing where I am but this is the coldest May that I can remember. The temps. during the day have only been in the high 50's. Right now, it's [47 F]. Last night it was [37 F] and the same for tonight.

Endless winter: Yes, there's still ice on Lake Superior

I'm gonna keep writing about this until the last cube of ice is melted (if that happens). Unimaginably, there's still ice from the savage winter of 2013-14 on the south shore of Lake Superior near Marquette, Mich.

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Forecasters say Mobile has broken a 128-year-old record with a low temperature of 64 degrees.

The National Weather Service says the low Thursday morning was 1 degree cooler than the low of 65 degrees set in 1886.

The weather service says Huntsville tied a record low for the date of 59 degrees set in 1945, and temperatures were in the mid- to upper 50s across north Alabama.

The unseasonably cool temperatures are supposed to continue during the day with highs expected below 90 degrees across the state.

Here in the Netherlands it has never been so warm. In the first 6 months of this year there was an average of 10,2 degrees celcius (50F). Usually the average temperature of the first half year is arround 8 degrees celsius (46F).

It was a nice winter, what usually results in a cold and rainy summer, but the summer has been great so far too. I wouldn't be surprised if the 113 years old record will be broken.

Yesterday and today it has been 30+ degrees celsius (86+F) and it doesn't seem to change too much the coming days.

Coolest Summer On Record In The US

The frequency of 90 degree days in the US has been plummeting for 80 years, and 2014 has had the lowest frequency of 90 degree days through July 23 on record. The only other year which came close was 1992, and that was due to dust in the atmosphere from Mt Pinatubo.

ATLANTA (Reuters) - Record-breaking low temperatures across the southern United States on Wednesday made July feel more like October, with the mercury dipping to 49 degrees Fahrenheit in Alabama.

In Atlanta, the low was 59 degrees, breaking the previous record of 61 degrees set in 1936, according to the National Weather Service. The normal low for Atlanta is about 71 degrees, the National Weather Service said.

Chicago seemingly switched from summer to fall overnight.

Temperatures plunged from a high near 80 degrees on Wednesday to the mid-50s on Thursday, and by mid-day the area set a record low for high temps.

On this date in 1940, the coolest high temp was 61 degrees. On Thursday, O'Hare Airport recorded a high of 56 degrees.

We're doing the switch here, but from "fall-like" weather to hot as hell summer weather. 90s on the weekend and high 80s a few days in between. Tuesday looks like it might go back down to the 70s, but who knows. Summer hasn't given up yet here!

here in Florida there's a mixture of sunny days. windy days, stormy days, hot windy days, hot stormy days, cold nights, hot nights, a combination or all of the above, haha...

like yesterday, it was sunny in the morning, then turned into cloudy afternoon, then storm clouds started to form and/or come in from the ocean (east), rained a lot, windy and still hot... then things start to clear up, still windy but it turned into a cool and windy night with a few lingering rain clouds (intermittent clouds) in the sky with the big (almost) full-moon...

I have just been reading on a post that came up on my news feed about it snowing in South Dakota and it being the earliest snowfall since 1888. I know that over in the US they had some really harsh cold weather last winter so I can't imagine how it must make anyone feel knowing it's starting to get cold in some places now.

I live in the UK and right now we have warm weather and sunshine which is quite unusual for this time of year because we usually have chilly winds, rain and a lot of cloud.

Was [48 F] last night and today's high will be only [61 F]. Feels more like late October than it does early September.

My brother just moved from Oregon to North Dakota near the border of Montana, and I hope they enjoy that stark change in weather once winter really rolls around. xD I've never been there myself, but my friend has a cabin in Montana and he says the winters are brutal. We looked at the forecast there for ND and it says down to freezing temperatures at night already.

Cold temperatures have socked much of the country early, bringing freezing temperatures and mounds of snow in some of the earliest winter weather in decades.

Winter has debuted early in the USA. So early, in fact, that river ice has already ended the shipping season on the upper Mississippi river. The shipping season was ended early on November 20, the earliest shut down since records were first started in 1969.
