WASHINGTON (CBS DC) – A new study has found that 38 percent of employers will lay workers off if the minimum wage is increased as President Barack Obama has proposed.

Express Employment Professionals, the nation’s largest privately held staffing firm, surveyed 1,213 business owners and human resources professionals nationwide asking them if they would be impacted if the minimum wage was increased.

Roughly 54 percent of the study participants said they would reduce hiring and 65 percent said they would raise prices on their goods and services.

So they raise the wage to try to help people and 38% of them will have no income at all. Some help.

I think it's pretty shameful when you are willing to pay someone the lowest amount you can legally pay someone to do work that benefits you greatly. Any decent employer would want to see their workers prosper instead of living in abject poverty. By the way, if the pay you give is so low that you qualify for federal aid then it's too low.

Why exactly would you be wanting to push for a legal salary that forces the government to subsidize the rest that business are unwilling to pay?

The purpose of a business first and foremost is to make money. To make as much money as humanly possible under the law. Now if a company wants to make money they hire the best people to make the most money. So depending on the business the best may end up being the least educated. It is up to the individual to decide if they want that kind of low pay or they are going to eventually work for something better in there future. And I dont want to hear about peoples conditions keeping them down. Its bull crap and there are countless stories of people over coming it.

I myself am a 10th grade high school drop out and was homeless on the streets at 17. I took minimum wage and had nothing and begun working my way up a company into management. Then starting my own successful business my dear wife convinced me was the right move. If this big dummy can live in a place I only dreamed about then others can do it. If you are to lazy or un-motivated to do it I should not fork out more money with my business on a amount of pay you dont deserve.

Starting out with the lowest pay and struggling to make ends meet to just get off the streets made it a teaching moment for the rest of my life and I would not go back and change any of it.

Im not forcing anything on anyone. Government has absolutely no business being involved in giving other peoples money out to others. Im for private charities but I am against all government social programs. When government does such things it keeps them dependent and un-motivated. Its amazing what people can do when they truly are on there own and they dont want the life they have anymore.
