6 Irish Students die in Berkeley, California

The accident occurred at the residence on the fourth floor of 2020 Library Garden Complex, Kittredge Street. The group of young people were celebrating a 21st birthday when the balcony collapsed just before 1am, on Tuesday (June 16).

Having seen the tiny size of the balcony, I find it difficult to see how 14 people could occupy it at the same time. It also appears like the balcony is poorly constructed and sub-standard in strength. In any case this is an awful tragedy. Heartbreaking for all the families and friends who've lost loved ones.
