Irish court: End life support for pregnant woman

Irish judges have ruled that life support should be removed from a brain-dead pregnant woman because her living 18-week-old fetus cannot survive to birth.

Friday's ruling was accepted by lawyers representing the rights of the woman and the unborn child, who in Ireland has a constitutionally protected right to life.

Ireland has the strictest anti-abortion laws in Europe. Doctors treating the woman had refused family requests to remove her from life-support machines after she was declared clinically dead Dec. 3, arguing they couldn't legally afford to withdraw support from the fetus inside her.

The woman was declared clinically dead four days after suffering a severe head injury in a fall.

Do you think that life support should be removed? Why/Why not?

Since life has miraculous way of surviving I consider it murder what they did to that unborn child.

Living here I can tell you that not only this bit other situations have left families tormented because of unclear legislation.
This whole situation has been horrific and I can only say that the judges in outer Supreme Court made the right decision on this.

My complete and total sympathy goes to her family.

The baby is much too early in gestation to have a reasonable chance at surviving on a literally dead host. Unless they somehow managed to find a way to give it the nutrients it would need to develop properly in the womb, the child is going to die very quickly too and they are going to have two deaths on their hands instead of just one.

They have had pregnant woman brain dead before bring babies to full term before. Instead of outright murder give the child a chance. But they picked murder.

They most certainly did murder a child no less then if you walked up to a individual and shot them in the head. It would not have been murder if they had at least tried and gave the child a fighting chance.

There are several cases to document your statement is 100% correct:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2556485/Braindead-woman-Robyn-Benson-gives-birth-healthy-baby-taken-life-support-day.html

http://www.evoke.ie/news/brain-dead-woman/

http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/11/health/canada-brain-dead-pregnant-woman/

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/brain-dead-mom-gives-birth-to-twins-while-on-life-support/

http://www.lifenews.com/2014/12/19/baby-boy-born-after-brain-dead-mother-kept-alive-two-months/

So, saying a fetus cannot survive "on a literally dead host", is incorrect.

In my opinion and reading this statement from another source, they murdered this unborn child:
The baby’s legal team announced that it will not be appealing the decision to the Ireland Supreme Court. That means the hospital is free to move ahead to shut off the life support and take the life of the unborn child.

It's about time, this country needs to update its laws to prevent families from being put through this kind if torture
