Have you ever, or do you know anyone who has, been a 911 operator?

What do you think that would be like?

No, I just knew an EMT.

I imagine it'd be a stressful job.

I did meet 2 people who were 911 operators. They said they loved their jobs but it was also very stressful and sometimes on the calls you hear horrible things. For example, one of my friends heard a child die while she was on the phone with him. The other friend heard someone take their families lives while they were on the phone with the operator.

My friends told me it's a very rewarding career however you do have to be mentally strong in order to remain calm and collected while there are horrible things going on.

I don't think I could do it. I would get too emotionally attached.

A girl I used to work with went back home and became a dispatcher. She could easily do that job, I think, because she always took her job seriously and could manage her emotions well. Who knows what kind of mental toll it's taken, but she's the only one I know of.

I've never met anyone who worked as a 911 operator.

I think that would be a disturbing job with some of the phone calls you would get.
