BELFAIR, WASH. — Washington State Patrol Trooper Russ Winger says the driver was hauling five-gallon buckets of latex paint in various colors Tuesday afternoon when he somehow lost control of his SUV and ran off a state highway near Belfair, southwest of Seattle. The paint went flying, coating the man, his black dog and the interior of the vehicle.

Poor guy and his dog. It's obvious from the picture that the man is injured. You can see the blood on his face. Glad he only had minor injuries. Also glad they were able to wash the dog before the paint dried.

The only thing I'm not understanding is where were these paint cans to begin with. Were they inside the truck? If so, where?

It has a back seat, doesn't it?
Yes but those paint pails must weigh about 50 lbs each. How could they fly from the back seat and cause all that paint to be on the windshield?

At sufficient speed, that should be no problem at all.
If you are not wearing a seatbelt then, when the car starts decelerating during the collision, you continue travelling at the initial speed until some part of you, such as your head, has its own collision with some other object, such as the window, steering wheel etc.

People tend to weight more than 50 pounds.
