I wouldn't hide...I'd grab a knife and head for the door and then to my neighbor's house.

My priority will not be to hide in the house, but to escape. If there is some time getting out through a window or another door is the most logical action. Any confrontation creates a high risk of injury for either person and potential legal trouble later, which leads to a worse outcome.
If there's no way to get out, then you do what you have to do

The logical place would be the bathroom but those doors are easy to kick in for someone who intends to harm you.

I have a tactical tomahawk not far from my bed.

And I know how to use it.

There's also a loaded .38 elsewhere in the house where I can get to it quickly and easily.

If somebody breaks in here, and the sixty pound dog dog doesn't convince them to leave in a big hurry.

This is a good question and not one I have thought about. It would probably end up being my daughter's bedroom; she has a window that opens onto a roof we could climb onto and get out to get help.
