Evidently the US administration hasn't been paying attention to who and what the Talib are.

US to begin direct peace talks with Taliban 'within days'

Senior US officials said on Tuesday that they will enter peace talks with the Taliban at a new office in Doha "within the coming days", in what may be a significant step towards an end to the long-running war.

...
The Afghan Taliban opened the office to help restart talks on ending the 12-year-old war, saying it wanted a political solution that would bring about a just government and end foreign occupation.

Senior Barack Obama administration officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak on the record, described the office opening to AP as a stepping stone to full Taliban renouncement of al Qaeda.

Peace talks won't hurt anyone.
Simply wiping everyone out is such a dreadful way to end a war.

Having said that, I doubt any sort of justice will be had from this.

Oh well.

Afghanistan has suspended talks with the US aimed at determining the nature of US military presence after foreign troops withdraw in 2014.

A spokesman for President Hamid Karzai said the decision was taken over "contradictions" over the US proposal of direct talks with the Taliban.

The Taliban refuse to talk to Mr Karzai and he is angry that the US did not make this a precondition, analysts say.

This is simply nonsense:

A row over the status of the Taliban's newly-opened office in Doha, Qatar, continues to frustrate efforts to start Afghan peace talks there.

After a rebuke from the Qataris, the Taliban removed a nameplate and a flag, only to hoist the white-and-black banner again on a shorter flagpole.

Boko Haram - "Western education is sacrilege"

Another fine upstanding fundamentalist Islamic organization like the Taliban and the Muslim Brotherhood.

POTISKUM, Nigeria (AP) -- Islamic militants attacked a boarding school before dawn Saturday, dousing a dormitory in fuel and lighting it ablaze as students slept, survivors said. At least 30 people were killed in the deadliest attack yet on schools in Nigeria's embattled northeast.
