Responded to a 911 call last night for a drunk and injured male. The guy was an older man and was sitting on the bottom step of his porch. While my crew was getting out the stretcher, I went over to do an assessment of his injuries. I told him what I was going to do and he seemed very calm. As I bent down to look at a cut on his leg, he sucker punched me in my face.

The punch caught me right under my left eye and I stumbled back and hit my head on the porch railing. The rest of my crew were able to subdue him and restrain him on the stretcher. Today I look like I was in a boxing ring.

This morning I got a call from the hospital that the drunk wanted to see me. He feels bad and wants to apologize. There is no way in heck I'm going to waste my time going to see him.

Question: Would you have gone to see him and let him apologize?

O.o

No, I wouldn't bother to visit the guy, but I would forgive him (maybe after some stuff, though

The man was drunk, it doesn't make him a bad person, it makes him a drunk, and if he's sorry than you should forgive him, I wouldn't go to the Hospital to see him though.

I hold no ill feeling towards this drunk. I meet drunks almost every time I'm on duty. This one happened to be a special one who punched my face and laughed. I'm not about to get in my truck, waste my time and gas for an apology.

The next time he sees you should be in court when he stands trial for assault and battery on an emergency worker in the line of duty.

With any luck, it'd be upgraded to a felony.

Harsh and largely unnecessary in my opinion, but what do I know, people will sue for just about anything these days, I just don't understand Ouch... he punched me in the eye but he was drunk and called to apologize the very next day, he should be sued and probably go to prison!

I don't think I would've bothered. Because for starters, it's his own fault he'd gotten drunk in the first place. So if he hadn't chosen to drink at all, he wouldn't have behaved the way he did and he would've let you guys as well as the paramedics take him to the hospital without incident.
