Fascinating pictures. When did this hospital close?

1998. Random fact, in 1995 my Mum went there for her knee - it was an Orthopaedic Hospital.

Some of the items left behind look like antiques or collectible items to me. What the coolest thing you saw while you were in there? Did you take anything home with you?

The chair was the best bit. There are a few abandoned buildings on that site two are boy homes which have some history to them but I won't go into that unless you want me to.

We were in a rush because we were spotted on the way in so we were half expecting to be told to leave but nothing happened. Then I saw someone looking round near the building so I ducked out the way - no idea if they did see me or not and at that point we decided it was best to leave.

Nooo, that'd be theft!

I would love to hear the history of the boys home. I'm surprised squatters haven't taken over that hospital. When you say you were spotted, do they have some sort of security there? I give you a lot of credit for even going IN there. I hope it wasn't your Mum that you brought with you. I'd be kind of spooked in there to be honest with you. :(

Of course I didn't take my Mum!

Long story short, the homes were run by a priest he abused the boys. He died in jail, several of the boys who were abused took their own lives.

Oh, how very sad and awful! :(

Great photos.

We have somewhere similar closed up round here. I know a few people who have gone in at night, and one guy offered to take me but i said no thank you! It was an old mental hospital.

I would love to go and have a look round old asylums. From ones I've seen on the internet they are amazing.
