A stray dog found with her snout bound so tightly with tape that she required surgery is on the mend, animal society officials have said.

Caitlyn, a Staffordshire terrier cross, was 15 months old when she was found on a doorstep in North Charleston, South Carolina, with thick electrical tape wrapped around her snout.

Her finder took her to the Charleston Animal Society, where she was listed as being in critical condition and underwent surgery to repair her cheek and lips.

According to officials, Caitlyn’s tongue, which was swollen and oozing pus, had no blood flow as it was stuck between her teeth.

But animal society officials have said that Caitlyn’s incisions have healed and she is now very much on the mend.

William Leonard Dodson, 41, was arrested and charged with animal cruelty on 4 June. According to court documents, Dodson bought the dog for $20 and said he had taped her snout to stop her barking.

Wish I could bind the owners 'snout' just so he feels the same pain he put that poor dog through.

Why did he even buy the dog in the first place? I mean, what did he expect from a dog? To meow like a cat, maybe?
