Ads on forums

Have you ever been on a forum that is overloaded with google banner ads (or something similar)? How much do you think is too much? Do you prefer a forum to be ad-free (like this one)?

I see enough ads on television. I hear enough ads on the radio. Can you guess my answer?

If they are at the top or bottom of a forum I never tend to notice. - and if that is the case then I am not fussed about a forum being ad free or not.

If they are all over the board, in between posts, etc. That really annoys me, and I won't stick around.

As long as they are unobtrusive I don't mind... or wouldn't mind given that I'm running AdBlock

Many sites nowadays are having these ads, especially free hosted forums.

I've not really been bothered by ads on forums. If they are a simple text or banner ad, I tend to overlook them. Mouse-over, auto-play ads are far more obnoxious.

Ads and ad placement are getting to be stupid.



I went into the VZ website to pay my landline bill and came face to face with a STATE FARM INSURANCE commercial.



Come on.....



I was logged into Verizon, to pay a Verizon Bill, and had an ad talking to me.



I ignore the ones on Yahoo and Facebook and all as much as possible because I am NOT paying to use them, but when I am paying for the privilege of being annoyed, no.

I just went to check out a forum that sounded really promising. They had exactly what you described. There were ads not only on the top and bottom but in between posts as well. Shame because the board looked like a good community but NO WAY will I register. They were so distracting, I couldn't even focus on the posts.
