From what I've seen in the short time I've been here, it doesn't seem like Off Topix needs advertising. It's busy and active and new folks joining all the time. However, I'm not sure where they're coming from and haven't given it any thought until now.

The board my friend and I run is completely different. We don't advertise and we only allow trusted friends of the members we have. We had to relocate our board because of technical difficulties, but we've brought on a few more friends of friends. haha, we're like a group e-mail board ... on board.

Does Off Topix advertise? If yes - where?

Sure does. I have a pretty long list here.

Not sure how accurate it is though.

I try to advertise wherever its allowed and go back to bump my threads about once a week, sometimes more.

I'm the same. Although I do it every two days. I do it that way because one time last year on a forum promotion site, we were in a 48 hour lock-down as they claimed I spammed my own topic by replying to someone else's. I also got an infraction once because I bumped it sixteen minutes too early. Wow, really you guys? Sixteen minutes? I was pissed because it was very clear to me that some people don't know how to tell time sometimes. Now thanks to those two incidents, I bump up my topic every two days.

I have given up with advertise forums. They don't help me gain members. None of the members from exchanges and packages have stuck around. Every forum has the same people on it so you are basicly advertising to the same people everytime.

Everytime you bump an advert, its disappeared off the first page in half a day with everyone doing the same.

Im done with them. I shall be sticking to music forums from now on..

- I advertise on a lot of sites, most of them aren't advertisement forums though. I found them to be the least effective overall. I don't really choose the sites, I just advertise there when I bump into it.

- I usually only read the rules concerning advertisement. Even if the forum is interesting enough to stay around, most rules are the same anyway. I've never read the ones on Off Topix either lol.

- Dunno, we had quite a long list but we lost it, so we're going to have to start from the beginning again. I'd say definitely over 20 though.

- Yes, most of the current loyal members of Friction found us through advertisement.

Not picky, I advertise on lots of places. Even if the place is inactive, there is a chance someone will see my ad / join the forum.

Do you read all the rules before advertising?

Yes

How many sites do you advertise on?

I dont know, there is a pretty big list.. However Ive been too busy to advertise lately.

I usually put a link to this forum in my signature on any forum I post on... That can be effective advertising without actually advertising.

Has advertising helped you to recruit new members?

I'd say so, you got to put the links out there for people to click and find there way here. Word of mouth has helped a lot too.

I don't advertise my sites directly on any other websites, blogs and forums. I advertise on social media, mostly Facebook. I also use ad words to advertise where I mainly target location and demography instead of sites.
I've felt even way back when forums were a bigger thing that advertising on other forums didn't do much.

Are your sites active?

I try and choose sites where the genre is similar to my own board, but that doesn't stop me from adding my advertisement to just about any forum that allows it.

I always read the advertisement rules before submitting my site.

I advertise on whatever sites I join that allows such a thing.

Advertising always brings in some type of visitor, whether they're just guests or members that want to register to participate.

Anyone who joins my forum is welcome to advertise their forum in their siggy. No minimum posts required.
