Age to be left alone

I suppose when they are a teenager.. But it depends on how mature/responsible they are.

Depends on how responsible the child is and how much the parents trust them to be left alone.

I was left alone when I was 13 and tbh I was scared. I was afraid that something would happen and I would be blamed for it

I sat up on the couch all night long until my dad came back and then got in trouble for not going to bed on time

Earliest I think I was left alone at was about 7 or 8.

I'd say thats pretty young. My lil one will be 7 in a few months. There is no way I'd ever leave her alone in the house while I was gone.

The law in NZ states it's 14 (I'm 98% sure of it). I think its appropriate, but depends on the maturity and trustworthiness of the child.

Are you talking about for two hours while the parents go out to dinner, overnight, or for a weekend?

Are you talking about in a town where they have friends and relatives within walking distance or when they will be really alone?

I'd assume this is an in general discussion. How would you answer each of your questions?

In CA there isn't an age limit on how old a child has to be although I think there should be one. It all depends on the maturity, does the minor know what to do in case of emergency, can they get hold of parents or another adult... etc

I have seen a lot in my line of work with children being left alone... younger and older. We have taken 12 year old children into our custody because of immaturity and length of time alone. We have also left children a little younger than that alone because of the safe guards in place.

I know this isnt really something that pertains to Leaving a child home alone but when I was at the gym other day, a man took his daughter to go swimming. She was about 5 or 6 years old. He went into the Sauna (which is a little side room of the pool area) and left his daughter out there by her self without his supervision.

I told my daughter Why dont you go play with that girl right there. She said OK!

The reason I told her to go play with her is so I know someone is paying attention to her and making sure she doesnt drown or something.

Anyway one of the gym employee's came into the pool area to check something and I told him the situation about the unsupervised girl (which is a violation of their policy). He went into the sauna and told the guy (he was the only one in there) that if he does it again that his membership will be terminated.

Some people are stupid with their kids...
