What is the scariest experience you've had alone at home?

I came home from a birthday party one evening. I was home alone because my hubby was working. As soon as I pull into the garage, I hear what sounds like the doorbell ringing. I don't answer the door if I don't recognize who it is at the door, especially if I am home alone. It turns out the guy new my hubby (it was someone he use to work with) but he left a note for my hubby because he wanted to sell something to my hubby. Problem is, my hubby and I don't know how he knew where we lived.

All alone in our big open plan house in the broad light of day. It was completely, uncannily silent, as I walked from the long hall into the bright living room.

Then, ever so faintly, I heard a sound. A very soft sound, but very very close. I froze, then quickly & quietly positioned myself with my back to the fireplace as I frantically scanned the room for any sign of danger.

Out of nowhere something taps me on the shoulder 3 times. I must have jumped 10 feet while uttering harrowing shrieks.

It was my goddam cat sitting on the mantelpiece.

Only thing that comes to mind is the power going out from a storm and the house became way too creepy with the pounding rain and thunder.

Nothing at all other than I sometimes get creeped out with the midnight willies.

The scariest thing that I and my younger sister exprienced being alone at home when someone is trying to open our window. I was able to scare him off whem I opened the lights in front of our house.
