The ultimate status symbol for a corporate executive in the music business is apparently something called “a mist tunnel.”

Bob Pittman, who founded MTV a couple generations ago, is now the head of Clear Channel, which owns 850 radio stations across the country. Millions of dollars were spent on new offices on West 55th Street when the company consolidated staff from other locations.

Jerry Del Colliano, who runs the Inside Music Media Web site, reports that Pittman’s visitors will walk through a fine mist when they get off the elevator.

“As you walk through the mist, you hear directed speakers playing Clear Channel stations across the country,” a source told Del Colliano.

Clear Channel, now owned by Thomas H. Lee Partners and Bain Capital, is said to be $21 billion in debt, and has laid off thousands of employees.

The source suggested that Pittman scrap the tunnel and save the money “so you don’t have to keep firing people and cutting salaries.”

The University of California-Santa Barbara professor who allegedly assaulted a pro-life student on campus has been charged with criminal battery.

The College Fix reported on March 12 that department of feminist studies professor Mireille Miller-Young, whose research emphasis is black studies, pornography, and sex work, had been caught on camera assaulting a 16-year-old student, Thrin Short.

Miller-Young led a small mob that approached a group of pro-life demonstrators who were holding signs. The mob chanted “tear down the sign.” Miller-Young then grabbed one of the signs and stormed off with it, eventually engaging in a physical altercation with 16-year-old Short, one of the pro-life demonstrators, when Short tried to retrieve the stolen sign.

The confrontation took place in the university’s designated “free speech area.”

While being interviewed by Late Night host Seth Meyers, NBC analyst Bob Costas bet athletes cannot be trusted with guns.

According to Politico, Costas said there is a "gun culture" and referenced "dozens if not hundreds of sorry incidents" tied to athletes and guns that took place prior to his initial 2012 NFL halftime speech on gun control.

He told Meyers:

Let's make a bet, you and me. Let's say over the next five years we'll do a Google search. We'll have an independent party monitor it. You keep track of how many good and constructive things are associated with athletes having a gun, and I'll keep track of all the tragedies and criminality and folly. And let's see who comes out ahead or behind as the case may be.

A teenage boy faces felony assault and conspiracy charges after egging a 60-year-old homeless woman who was praying on the sidewalk in Lancaster.

A Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy witnessed the alleged attack about 1 p.m. Monday near Sierra Highway and Jackson Avenue and arrested the teen, whom authorities did not identify. Two other teen males who were waiting in a nearby vehicle were also arrested. All three are minors.

The woman, who was struck once in her chest, complained of pain, but declined medical treatment, officials said.

Additional video evidence and items gathered in the vehicle the teens were riding in led deputies to believe "other prior incidents had occurred," according to a Sheriff's Department announcement. Officials posted images online of some of the items, including a mask, backpacks, a glove and what appears to be an Airsoft-type pellet gun.

All three teens were booked on suspicion of felony assault and conspiracy, according to the Sheriff's Department. They were all held without bail and transported to the Sylmar Detention Facility.

In September-October 2014, Itella Posti will release seven new sets of stamps, containing a total of 33 new designs. It is a great collection to choose from; the subjects of the new stamps include male drawings by Tom of Finland, autumnal yard and garden scenes painted by Urpo Martikainen, and Jaakko Tähti's photos of Finnish bridges. Other subjects for the end-of-the-year stamps include signs of sky and the change in everyday Finland - and, of course, Christmas.
Confident and proud homoeroticism

The autumn's stamp series begins September 8 with Tom of Finland, who is considered one of the most well-known Finnish artists around the world. His emphatically masculine homoerotic drawings have attained iconic status in their genre and had an influence on, for instance, pop culture and fashion. In his works, Tom of Finland utilized the self-irony and humor typical of subcultures.

During his career, Tom of Finland produced more than 3,500 drawings. The two drawings on the stamp sheet were selected by graphic artist Timo Berry, who designed the stamp, and Susanna Luoto, the Finnish representative of the foundation named after Tom of Finland operating in Los Angeles.

HOUSTON (CBS Houston) — A middle school teacher reportedly admits that she gave a student a birthday lap dance in front of the entire class.

KHOU-TV reports that 42-year-old Felicia Smith gave the lap dance to a 15-year-old boy inside a Stovall Middle School classroom on Feb. 26.

According to court documents, Smith stopped the teenage boy from going to his next class and the entire class told him to sit down in a chair placed in the front of the room.

The Houston Chronicle reports Smith then gave the boy a “full-contact lap dance” and the boy told authorities she touched him all over his body, including placing her head between his legs.

At the end of the four-minute long lap dance, Smith reportedly told the boy, “ I love you, baby. Happy birthday.”

According to KHOU, Smith did admit giving the boy a lap dance and said she lost her balance a few times.

The Aldine Independent School District says Smith has been removed as a teacher.

“A criminal charge of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with a student has been filed against a Stovall Middle School teacher. The charge was filed by Aldine Independent School District Police, who investigated the case along with the campus administration,” the school district told KHOU in a statement. “The teacher was removed from the campus during the investigation and has not returned. The district takes this allegation seriously and is fully cooperating with prosecutors. The safety and security of our students will continue to be a top priority in Aldine ISD.”

Smith has been charged with improper relationship with a student and had her bail set at $30,000.

Japan: Bridal photo shoots for men an untapped market

25 April

A Japanese dress hire company has stumbled across an unexpected demand for men to be photographed in women's bridal wear, it is claimed.

When the firm Marry Mariee advertised a package to take pictures of women in gorgeous dresses, it was surprised to receive several inquiries from men. Kyodo news agency says that many of the calls came from outside Fukui Prefecture, where the outfitter is based.

"We concluded that men want to feel like princesses, too," Marry Mariee manager Hitomi Iseki says. The company now offers some 100 dresses - both wedding and formal wear - that can be altered to fit men. It has also tied up with a nearby barber where men can have a shave before getting made-up at Marry Mariee. It takes about two hours to get ready for the shoot.

In the interests of gender equality, Marry Mariee now also offers a service for women who want to be photographed in men's clothing. "We want to provide opportunities for people to enjoy showing their real selves, whether they are men or women," Iseki adds.

Another round of weapon registration and control is coming our way, and it is clearly needed....

NORCROSS, Ga., May 5 (UPI) --
A warrant charging a Georgia man with armed robbery has been issued after a 50-year-old suspect allegedly used a pitchfork to rob a Waffle House in Norcross.

Police are looking for Jeffery Wooten after he allegedly used the farm tool to herd employees and customers into the back room of the Waffle House so he could grab the cash register.

"When he realized he couldn't get the cash register open, he took the whole cash register and exited the store with his pitchfork," Norcross Police Chief Warren Summers told WSB-TV.

While he was carrying the register, Wooten dropped the pitchfork and a woman picked up the tool and began hitting him with it. "It appears the suspect sustained some injuries from this incident," Summers said.

Obama court nominee wrote memos justifying drone strikes on U.S. citizens
Wednesday, May 7, 2014

Harvard Law School scholar David Barron is an Obama administration nominee for a federal appeals court. He is also the author of government memos that make legal justifications for killing U.S. citizens overseas with drone strikes, which is why his selection to the U.S. First Circuit Court of Appeals has been delayed.

The White House has agreed to allow lawmakers to review at least one of the drone memos after U.S. senators and the the American Civil Liberties Union expressed concerns, technology website Ars Technica reported Wednesday.

Some Democrats, including SenateJudiciary Committee chairman Senator Patrick Leahy of Vermont, say it isn’t Mr. Barron’s memos, but political theater, that is tying up his selection.

The Janesville (Wisconsin) School District superintendent issued a public apology Tuesday for the showing of a video that she describes as pro-gay marriage and in violation of district policies requiring the presentation of all sides of “controversial” or “political” topics.

In April, Craig High School’s Gay-Straight Alliance showed “Kids React to Gay Marriage,” a 16-minute video of children reacting to marriage proposals between same-sex couples and sharing their thoughts on issues like gay marriage bans or whether they would stay friends with someone who told them they were gay.

Bits of text flashed during the video offering viewers information about the history and status of gay marriage in the United States or about discrimination and hate crimes, among other things.

Superintendent Karen Schulte said in a statement that the GSA’s advisers and principal Alison Bjoin approved students viewing the video during classes. But Schulte said a later review of the video prompted her apology.

“The appropriate thing would be to present both sides of an issue or all sides of an issue, so that’s why I sent the apology, because I felt we did not follow board policy,” Schulte said in an interview.

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A New York City cab driver insisted Friday that it is his right, hands down, to wear a Nazi armband – even if the Taxi and Limousine Commission says otherwise.

As CBS 2’s Lou Young reported Friday evening, Gabriel Diaz, 26, spoke outside of his family’s home in the Throggs Neck section of the Bronx, after he was suspended for wearing a swastika while driving the cab.

“I am. I’m a National Socialist – what you guys call a Nazi. I am. I’m a believer of it,” Diaz said.

Diaz was suspended for wearing the armband while driving his cab.

Not just once, but multiple times, photos sent to the Anti-Defamation League and to the Taxi and Limousine Commission sparked an investigation.

Diaz told Young he knew the symbol would offend some people, but denied being anti-Semitic.

“I don’t hate Jews. I’m critical of them, but I don’t hate them. That doesn’t mean that I’m anti-Semitic. That don’t make me a hater,” Diaz said. “Who says you have to be white to be a National Socialist? You don’t have to be white, it can be anybody.”

McDonald's has warned Thai democracy activists to stop using its trademark as part of their campaign against the military coup.

Protesters have used the burger chain as a meeting point and a life-size Ronald McDonald plastered with faces of pro-democracy campaigners.

The company has told activists to "cease and refrain" from the trademark infringements.

Standoffs with the country's military, which took control on May 22, have taken place at outlets in Bangkok.

Some protesters have also been using the McDonald's logo in anti-coup placards, replacing the "m'' in democracy with the trademark yellow arches.

PARIS — “I am not an anti-Semite,” French comedian Dieudonné M’bala M’bala says with a devilish grin near the start of his hit show at this city’s Théâtre de la Main d’Or.

Then come the Jew jokes.

In front of a packed house, he apes Alain Jakubowicz, a French Jewish leader who calls the humor of Dieudonné tantamount to hate speech. While the comedian skewers Jakubowicz, Stars of David glow on screen and, as the audience guffaws, a soundtrack plays evoking the trains to Nazi death camps. In various other skits, he belittles the Holocaust, then mocks it as a gross exaggeration.

1935_most_beautiful_aryan_baby.jpg

2 July

Hessy Taft, the winner of a 1935 contest commissioned by the Nazis in Germany to find the most beautiful Aryan baby, recently revealed that she is Jewish.

Taft, now an 80-year-old professor, told Germany's Bild newspaper that her parents moved to Berlin from Latvia in 1928 to pursue singing careers, but her father later lost his job at an opera company because he was Jewish and found work as a traveling salesman. In 1935, Taft's mother took her to Hans Ballin, a well-known photographer, to have the 6-month-old's picture taken. Unbeknownst to her, Taft's image soon turned up on the cover of Sonne ins Hause, a Nazi family magazine.
