I got a fucking letter through the post saying that the standard of cleanliness in the flat is shit. Since I have to live in the show flat I have to make sure that it's clean at all times. Which I have... Until they lump someone else in here with me. We talked for like an hour the day after he moved in and he said that he was a clean freak. What fucking dictionary he took the definition of clean freak out of is beyond me.

I have to put up with his shitty music, late hours in which he comes into the flat and slams all the doors, and his fucking mess. He can't clean up after himself, so it's up to me to do it. When he does clean his washing up, he leaves it in the bowl of the sink for ages and then cleans it and then sticks it on the side. He drops food on the floor and doesn't clean it up, and has left all his guitar shit in the front room. He leaves plates that he's eaten off on the side for days without washing them up. He uses my pots and pans and cutlery and doesn't clean them up. So when I need to use them I'm forced to clean them up. He doesn't take the bin out, it's left to me, in fact I asked him 3 days ago to take the rubbish out, and has he? No.

Now I have to deal with the consequences. I've literally spent 3 hours cleaning and scrubbing both the kitchen and the bathroom, and I've hoovered both places up. So now for, how long they decide to keep this up, I have to endure weekly kitchen inspections. When the security shift come on duty they are to come to the flat and inspect it, and then report back.

I'm in half a mind to write to the office or go down to the office and tell them, it's not me who's making all the mess and having to deal with it, but then it'll sound like I'm trying to shift the blame. Either that, or they tell me to clean up after him. I'm not his fucking mother! I am not going around after him picking and cleaning everything up. I have better things to do with my time then that.It would have helped if they told me when someone was coming to see the flat then I could have kicked my flatmate up the arse to clean his shit up, but they stopped doing that...

I can only hope that when he leaves and I get the flat back to myself, that they see that I'm not the one with the wrong definition of Clean freak and that I do clean up after myself, because this is unfair. I swear I AM going to rip him a new one. Either that or punch him. I am so tempted too.

It's under spoilers since I have used quite a lot of swear words. No back off the clean

I'm very sorry you are going through this and having to live with a lazy slob. The office, unfortunately, does not know which of you is responsible for the mess. Just for the record, I would go down to the office and state your case. There is no way they can expect you or tell you to clean up after this slob. If he touches your pots or utensils again without your permission to do so, I would pack them up in a box and hide them where he can't touch them. If he refuses to take the bin out, I would place the bin in his room. The other thing I would do when he left all his filthy crap laying around is to wait until he leaves the flat and hide his guitar. When he asks where it is, I would tell him it will reappear when he cleans up after himself. Hell of a way to have to live but these are a few things I would do.

When is this lazy slob leaving?

Just had a word with him and he said that he was very sorry, and that he was going to leave some contact details when he leaves so that if there are any charges with the cleaners, I'm to send them to him. Which is making up for it a little bit. A very tiny little bit. Also, he leaves tomrrow, so things should return to a normal scheduale.

Thank goodness he's leaving that lazy slob!

I dont know if I could live somewhere that did inspections.. Let alone a roommate. Ive had roommates in the past and there was always fights about cleanliness, bills, food, having people over, and the list goes on and on..... I'd rather live on my own and have a less money each month than split the bills with some asshole (and they all turn out to be assholes after a while).

Anyway, why isnt your roommate a girl?

I am confused...

How did this person come to take up residence in your place and why can't you just throw his sorry ass into the gutter?

I live with a slob. My sister. I have no choice but to live here for the time being and I keep the kitchen and bathroom and my room clean but the rest of the house is a total sty, so I know exactly how you feel.

He got moved to my flat temporarily because he was put with drug dealers in his previous accommodation.

I'm not particulary bothered if I live with a guy or a girl. Just if their nice.

You should live with a girl since you are a girl. Makes more sense to me.

I know I couldn't! That sounds too much like a dictatorship.

I guess I don't understand how this thing works. So what if he was put with drug dealers before? Don't you have a choice who you live with??

Since I managed to book the show flat by accident, and the rest of the accommodation was full up, they decided to put him with me... The way it normally works is that you book a room of a flat (normally there are 3-5 rooms per flat) and other people book the other rooms. It's really the luck of the draw in who you get to live with, but I thought that since they allowed me to stay here then I would be on my own

I also got no prior warning to him coming to live at the flat as well. I think I'm going to look for somewhere else to stay in September...
