Manga (kanji: 漫çâ»; hiragana: ã¾ãââãÂÅ; katakana: ãÆžãƳãâ¬; English /ÃËmÃâÃÂà â¹Ã¡Ãâ¢/ or /ÃËmæà â¹Ã¡Ãâ¢/) is the Japanese word for comics and consists of comics and print cartoons (sometimes also called komikku ãâ³ãÆŸãÆÆãâ¯). In the west, the term Manga has been appropriated to refer specifically to comics created in Japan, or by Japanese auteurs, in the Japanese language and conforming to the style developed in Japan in the late 19th century. In their modern form, manga date from shortly after World War II, but they have a long, complex pre-history in earlier Japanese art.
