Should the present ban on exploiting the resources of the Antarctic be maintained?

I feel the ban should be held. Antarctica is a lot more important than many think. If we were to exploit it, pollution could cause it to melt. I forsee that ending badly. I'll go into more detail if we have some opposing views.

Opinions?

Never heard about this issue.. What resources does a big chunk of ice have?

Oil and gas.

Minerals

Fish

Tourism (27,000 visited last year from cruiseships)

Animals..

Oh. Well lets melt it.

Coolness. I will hypnotize it and then become leader of the penguins.

Not if all of them are dead from exploitation. I never said the penguin in your backyard was a live penguin.

Well you wouldn't want to suck all the life out of the US, right? I mean you mostly already have, but still. I think it's important to preserve Antarctica, because otherwise all the penguins would die...

SERIOUS DEBATE GUYS.

It was hard to keep a serious debate with Nebulous and I both at 2 AM yesterday, but I do agree. The damage that could come out of Antarctica exploited could be catastrophic.

Don't worry I love it.

Also, aren't polar bears in the Arctic? Although eventually they'd be affected too, if not before. Ruining biodiversity is not such a good idea, it's just a downward spiral. You can't get some species back, and worst still, it continues affecting other species.
