There was a time where a car was a very simple beast in terms of technology. You had a radio. Then we started to see XM radio, and then iPod connectivity, and then SD Card readers, USB readers, phone chargers, etc. Now we've got Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Tesla have their own in-built stuff, VW has their own entertainment option, and so on. Cars are now full on media centers! Movies, music, YouTube, you name it! Is this too much? How much is too much before distracted drivers start running over people while they're watching videos on their consoles? There must be a limit, right?

Yes.

Had a co-worker say her car wouldn't turn on because the computer inside of it didn't load everything correctly.

How much longer till we can hack cars? :P

I'm pretty sure that's already possible, there can't be any stringent security features on them, so it must be possible already, or at least very close.

Well it sounds like our prime minister Scott Morrison (SCOMO) is slowly trying to remove the gas car by slowly converting everyone to use electric cars, Electric is the same thing that runs our computers, etc.. obviously.

I understand this is the future compared to the 80s but I personally think things are starting to get a little overboard now, as much as I love technology anything abused is bad.

Yeah, electric cars are a decent stopgap measure, but for my money I think hydrogen-electric is the ticket.

Not sure what you're getting here? I don't think a pc is required to make use of an electric car, more like being environment friendly.

I mean they both use the same type of electricity but are for different purposes, besides the electricity that comes from our power plants there will be less gas cars eating up our Ozone Layer so it’s a good point there.

I love tech, the more they load cars and trucks up the better it's more for me to tinker with.(y)

Well, I don't think 'distraction' is the issue. Having more technology hasn't made it any harder for me to concentrate (and in any case, they might soon be self-driving anyway :P ).

Instead, I think the main problem is the increased complexity. The more tech you have on your cars, the more things there are that can go wrong - and the harder it is to fix them. It may well be that it costs more to fix than the car is worth - and then, you're left with a lump of scrap that's costly and time-consuming to recycle due to how complex it is.

(And then we go out and buy another car... which is exactly what the car manufacturers want. Planned obsolescence means they have a steady stream of new sales :P )
