A lot of anti-virus programs nowadays can't really be trusted for various reasons. Norton Antivirus takes up too much memory and slows down your computer's performance and McAfee downloads updates and nags your about them at the wrong times. So, are there any good antiviruses that you can fully trust and don't cause an annoyance to you and actually do their job on scanning and eliminating viruses and malware?

For me, I say Malware-Bytes and Comodo Internet Security. Not sure if I should say F-Secure which I had on my old computer, as that was okay with me.

Given your criteria, no. Not even F-secure.

They will all either try to update all the time, usually when you are doing something else, or nag you about it.

The good ones are all large programs, and some are huge.

Others are trial-ware that simply stop working after thirty days or something, or won't remove anything unless you register it and/or pay for it.

And the ones advertised on TV, such as 'mycleanPC' and its clones ARE 'viruses and malware' that you have to pay the company to remove.

You have to decide how much annoyance you are willing to put up with to get the job done.

I like AVG for home, and yes, it is the most annoying piece of software ever written when it comes to nagging about updates.

At work we have McAffee's suite that is a resource hog, but does a good job, but we simply know that when the little thing comes up that says it is updating, about once a week, it's time to go get a cup of coffee.
