Off Topix: Embrace the Unexpected in Every Discussion

Off Topix is a well established general discussion forum that originally opened to the public way back in 2009! We provide a laid back atmosphere and our members are down to earth. We have a ton of content and fresh stuff is constantly being added. We cover all sorts of topics, so there's bound to be something inside to pique your interest. We welcome anyone and everyone to register & become a member of our awesome community.

Arguments

Put them in a special group that can only see one area of the forum and that is the place where conflicts are resolved, which would happen to have a topic whose title would be something along the lines of Attn: User 1 and User 2 and in it, would say that in there they can say whatever they've got to say to each other to get it off of their chest, and so that, they don't bring down the forum with their issues.

Once they've done so, they are not to say anything else about it on the forum, otherwise they will be suspended. After they have said what they had to say, the staff will say a unbiased few words, (since we are neutral) and after everyone is n the same page, the topic will be locked and never to be spoken of again.

I have never had no problems on Marie 1988 as of yet, but if I ever did, and both parties were willing to speak about it, I would simply have them PM me with their sides of the story and go from there.

There was an argument on Rapture once in the pictures thread because someone made a joke and the other person didn't take it too well.

I split the posts out, moved them to the rants forum and let them deal with each other.

I did try to lock that thread but I only ended up getting a PM from both people asking me to reopen it so I reopened it and they dealt with the problem and all is well again.

I rather have the problems dealt with as they come rather then try to hide them so they fester into something that ends up with you losing members and pissing everyone off.

Thats acutally a pretty good idea but what do you do if it doesnt go as smoothly as you described?

You want to see some insane member infighting? Join www.forumgarden.com and you'll see what a mess things become. That was my first forum ever and with an absentee admin there, things got way out of control very quickly and went downhill from there.

Disagree with either Koan or Spot - the 2 moderators - and you will be ripped to shreds. That's one of the reasons I left that hellhole.

+1

haha, great post! However, (title or no title) neither of them have the real ability to rip anyone. They fail over and over again and are sooo desperate. I don't know about you, but I enjoy watching such amusement and desperation. There's my ornery side.

I also enjoy watching the desperation. Where once a garden grew, there is nothing but tumbleweeds left.

To Cinnamon - you better believe they can rip anyone to shreds!!

To Jazzy - you're right. A sad end to a once beautiful garden.

To Nebulous - it surely is a failure now.

You don't know what you got, until it's gone.

I don't mind forum banter but there is a point where you have to step in. If so I say deal with this in PMs or sort it out outside of the forum.

Ha, ha, reminds me of a Backstreet Boys song I like to listen to that came out in 2007, only it went something like:

How come you never know what you've got, until it's gone? Something like that.

Anyways, back on topic...

It's from Joni Mitchell's song, Big Yellow Taxi.

HI, Rapunzel. I was only speaking of my personal experience and a few 'exchanges' I had with them before I split that dust bowl. Was priceless!! Koan got big egg on her face and spot was stumped silent.

Looking in there recently, it appears only the mods are posting ... desperate and pathetic.

Just staff posting and no members? I can picture this if it were a brand-new forum, but for a forum that's been around for a while like that, that does sound pretty desperate if you ask me.

So, I've seen ... staff and a few brownies. The staff have multiple accounts though, some openly logged on at the same time. One mod has created several threads where she talks to herself, treats it like a blog.

Today I had a glass of water ... I got a papercut ... I stubbed my toe ...

Sorry and sad.

quoted for truth

only other people that post there are either religious nuts or conspiracy theory nuts................and i dont have time for either!

I allow it to progress before taking any action. I tend to join in the discussion to show an authoritative presence and help reduce tension within the thread in question. If it spirals out of control, I close the thread, warn both members (or whoever was provoking the argument) and carry on as normal.

To be honest, I don't know if I handle arguments well over at my forum. I don't like treating friends like they are little children just to get a picture across, and I'm sure they dislike it as much as I do. The argument that happened before the last one got pretty ugly, and names got called and this was happening between a moderator and a normal member. If this was a member to member argument, it would have been different (My mind at the time) so I told my moderator that at their position they shouldn't be calling members names, and said their position was in jeopardy for this... I thought it was really silly to say this because they know that, it started as a joke after all, it just got taken wrong. The last one that happened I let it resolve itself, and then moved the threads in the archive. This one ended alright, but I still feel bad because it makes it look like staff members don't do anything, but I don't want to belittle people who are probably much older then me, or anyone at all really since it doesn't feel right.
