Elaborating on the film franchise. There is the multi timeline theory.
I don't think the version of Kyle and The First T-800 truly existed in this Sarah's timeline that we see in the first film. The Sarah we see is different from the original Sarah Connor.
The original Sarah Connor didn't teach John Connor his military training. He was well into his 40's when the war started and Kyle wasn't his father.
There's a lot of evidence supporting this theory. Because, the T-800 ended up in the Cyberdyne factory and was reverse engineered accelerating Skynet's development as we see in the 2nd film. Cyberdyne didn't know where the technology came from or who made it. So they took credit for it anyway.
In Uncle Bob's timeline, Miles Dyson is Skynet's creator. Most likely, this has always been so in the same sense that Sarah is always John Connor's mother in the neighboring timelines next to the one originating timeline where the events started.
Because Skynet's speedy evolution in the alternate timelines. John Connor is younger and is having to acquire his skill set much earlier than he did in the originating timeline.
I have concluded that Skynet never actually mastered time travel. In fact, it was substituting with neighboring timelines where the war hadn't started yet by inserting it's existence with the intent of having little or no resistance at all.
What is evident in T-2 and in Terminator Dark Fate is that Uncle Bob, Carl, and the other T-800's did not disappear when Skynet was "prevented" from existing. Uncle Bob with Sarah's assistance, terminated himself. Carl went off and adopts a family 3 years after Skynet's destroyed and is living in Texas with his wife and adopted son, 25 years after the events. He is still existing from an AI that was never able to manufacture him in that timeline.
Even more evident is that Terminator Genesys acknowledges this.
They didn't disappear because the event didn't happen in the originating timeline and they continued to exist long after Skynet was prevented. They were marooned in those timelines long after they outlived their purpose. This allows Carl to develop the equivalent of a human conscience where he makes the choice to protect Dani Ramos, the resistance leader in this timeline against Legion. In doing so, he could possibly save his adopted family who defends him despite what he did to Sarah. His wife knew he wasn't human but didn't care due to the amount of trust and faith that she has in him.
So there are some timelines where The First T-800 kills Sarah or the T-1000 succeeds in killing John.
The timelines we see are the ones where the Resistance succeeded.

A lot of people never gave Dark Fate the chance it deserved. It mostly reflected on James Cameron's vision of the aftermath from T-2. In fact, it was supposed to be the original T-3 that he had promised to make some 20 years ago. But Arnold Schwarzenegger and everyone else wanted a sequel much sooner and Johnathon Mostow went ahead and got that train in motion.
Most claim Terminator 2 is the better film. I'm inclined to agree.

Definitely. They're two halves of a story and both complete each other. There are major references in the 2nd one that go back to the first film about the First T-800's arm and CPU that ended up in Cyberdyne's factory at the end of T1. Uncle Bob knew this when he showed Miles Dyson his arm to get his attention.
Yes and my apologies for my error. I have not seen T1 and that's why I asked if T1 or T2 was better. Again, sorry for any confusion.
T1 is a great film and is just as good as the second film. It built the foundation for Terminator 2 which continue it's story and plotline. It was also produced and directed by James Cameron who also did Terminator 2 and Terminator Dark Fate. It's a classic, it's the one film that made Arnold into a mega star, and it's free to watch on YouTube.
I genuinely enjoyed the movies. Did you guys ever catch the TV show? I wish they didn't cancel it.I did and I'm glad they canceled it. Lena Heidi is a good actress. But she can't do Sarah Connor and the series is called "The Sarah Connor Chronicles".
If you watch T1, T2, and TDF. Sarah Connor has major PTSD and raging anger issues after the first film which she begins to demonstrate when she crushes the The First T-800 after Kyle's death.
In fact in T-2 and Terminator Dark Fate, Linda Hamilton is constantly demonstrating her anger and rage throughout the James Cameron sequels
Lena Heidi fails terribly at this aspect with the character because it's a super emotional role that only Linda Hamilton can pull off. Lena Heidi's Sarah Connor barely shows any emotion. The main emotion we see in Sarah Connor through out T-2 and Terminator Dark Fate with Linda Hamilton's version is this volatile anger that she demonstrates. To me, the true Sarah Connor is Linda Hamilton and always will be. Anyone else cast in the role is an automatic fail because they are unable to portray the character in the same way that Linda always has.
Linda is bi-polar and already suffers from anger induced issues that she used for the character. She's admitted that the tiniest things can set her off.
Because the entire duration of T2, Sarah Connor has become this PTSD volatile individual hell bent on killing off Skynet after it sent a machine to kill her and has little tolerance for people who piss her off.
She shows a lot of hatred, blame, and resentment towards Miles Dyson for what happened.
In Terminator Dark Fate. She's constantly bitching about something and referring to the Terminators as "Metal Mother Fuckers"

She flies into a rage when she recognizes Carl. She even shoots him in his own home.

Another thing that the show failed at is after T-2, Sarah and John go hide out in Mexico. They never return to the US like T-3 depicts as T-3 was not true to James Cameron's vision for the franchise.
In fact, Terminator Dark Fate shows them in Mexico when John Connor is terminated.

Aside from all of these points how the show completely MISSES who Sarah Connor is. The show really tried to ride off of Summer Glau's Terminator, but still fails as she cannot fix a botched plotline with boring and off the wall episodes.
Kyle Reese never had a brother.
They tried turning a series of action movies into DAYS OF OUR LIVES. They had John Connor falling in love with Summer Glau's failed impression of a Terminator.
This show went so far off the rails that it was it's own thing and had it's own rules. Uncle Bob was only mentioned one time.
I didn't like Thomas Dekker's portrayal of the character no more than I liked Nick Stahl's version. They both did horrible at the role. Which is probably why James Cameron and Tim Miller decided to kill him off in Dark Fate because the only actor that successfully portrayed him was Edward Furlong.
The movies are based on a cat and mouse / chase dynamic. In Terminator 1, Kyle rescues Sarah and they run from the T-800 because Kyle lacks the weapons to put it down. Terminator 2, Uncle Bob can barely fight off a T-1000 as a T-1000 can dismantle a T-800 single handedly. So he takes John Connor and wants to run to Mexico. Again in Terminator 3, they're running away from the T-X, Again in Terminator Dark Fate, Grace wants to take Dani and run.
I fail to see how there was anything good about TSCC.
