An arrest warrant has been issued in the US for a rapper owing thousands of dollars who is believed to have faked his own death.

Tim Dog, whose real name is Timothy Blair, was reported to have died in February from diabetes complications but there is no death certificate or burial site.

He was convicted in 2011 for scamming over £20,000 from a Mississippi woman he met on a dating website.

Blair was ordered to pay back over half the amount but a court has been told that the repayments stopped around the same time as his reported death.

A judge approved a request for an arrest warrant because there was no proof of the rapper's passing.

County prosecutor Steven Jubera said: "I have no proof that he's dead, so I have to presume that he's alive."

Tim Dog, 46, is best known for his 1990s hit F*** Compton, a song criticising rappers in the West Coast.

Many reports of his death in February cited hip-hop magazine The Source, which has since removed the story from its website.

Attempts to contact Blair's lawyer from the 2011 case have so far failed, no one at his last address recognise his name and his daughter didn't immediately reply to an email.

Esther Pilgrim, the woman scammed by Blair, told the televsion programme Dateline NBC last year that she opened credit cards to get money to invest in Tim Dog albums.

Blair also appeared in the programme and accused Ms Pilgrim of wrecking the record deal and costing him hundred of thousands of dollars.
