A 25-year-old Romanian housewife could be getting a grand old honor: She's believed to be declared the world's youngest grandmother.

The British tabloid The Sun reports that Rifca Stanescu had her first child, a daughter named Maria, at the age of 12.

Although she urged the girl not to follow her example, Maria got in the family way when she was only 11 and gave birth to a son, Ion.

Stanescu was only 23 when she became a grandmother.

Ion's now 2, and Stanescu has mixed feelings about being a grandmother at such a young age.

I am happy to be a grandmother but wished more for Maria, she said.

It's not official yet, but Stanescu's mother may also be a record-holder since she became a great-grandmother at the ripe young age of 40.

This is a sad story in my book. Children having children. My goodness, what does a 12 or 11 year old know about raising a child. They have given up their own childhood and perhaps their dreams of a future to be record holder? That doesn't pay the bills or give them back their own childhood. I agree, EE, it's definately not an honor I'd want any child to try to achieve.
