When this case goes to trial, please let there be one or two jurors who pull a jury nullification on Kings County (a/k/a Brooklyn) prosecutors and refuse to convict the man....and last time I checked, there wasn't anything in the NY state criminal statutes that prohibit jurors from refusing to convict even if the evidence is there to convict... :whistles:

It should be murder since he literally got up out of his seat and strangled someone. Its not like he accidently did it.. he literally walked over and strangled this person, who as an entertainer, literally did more to make people happy than he ever did.

I also read somewhere that he ignored others telling him to stop.

I have been on the trains when someone came on angry and hungry and was asking for food and what I did was put a $20 in the bag and offer them the food. If they say they are hungry and take it, then you know that they were telling the truth and not only do they get a free meal but also some money to buy their next one.

If they reject it, then you know that they were full of shit. 9/10 it was accepted, but the one who didn't said that he didn't take food from Nigg- (you get the point..) he did look like he was in pain after I took the $20 out of the bag and ate the food while in line at the bus stop. And he didnt get anything either from anyone else who saw that exchange.

That said, you don't fucking strangle the person who said they were hungry.. even if they said they wanted to die.

But I suppose that this is what happens when you don't see the humanity in a person in need.

I hope the others who held his hands so that he couldn't save his own life are charged as accessories.

I am honestly surprised about this to be honest.. things have indeed changed for sure. The last time I rode the subway (a few years ago) this kind of thing would not have been tolerated..

I have seen the straphangers (passengers) get angry over some people being rude to performers and people trying to make a living.. even kids selling candy and bottle water for school charities.. (nowadays, these kids would be harassed by the cops and it has happened at least once or twice already) it is a common stereotype to believe that people make more money on the street while homeless than they would working and that is not true..

It is very difficult trying to make it in the city if you have no connections there.. especially since most of the programs are geared toward women and children, teens, domestic violence, with pets and the elderly.

In this city, if you are a man, and in need, then you are invisible, even and especially if you are a vet. It is often that many guys in this position, opt for jail when it is extremely cold, because it is too harsh on the street.

It is not an easy place to be homeless here, not that people choose it for themselves.. and the bootstraps narrative is bullshit.

But the casual indifference to a human life, especially one in need and someone who entertained many people during the most dreary and aggravating part of the day, is what is the most disappointing.

@DrLeftover when you were younger, were there homeless people in the world? Like there is now?

I wonder whats changed between previous generations and today?

There's always been homeless people.

Think back to those hobos that "rode the rails" between major cities without buying a ticket.

The members of the "Tourist Union" did not want, and did not need government handouts, and, in fact, would usually reject such offers.

It's only been recently where those who are intentionally homeless stand in front of city hall with their hand out.

We can also point to the Rom / Gypsies who were actually "homeless", and quite happily so.
