Autism can cause problems with social interaction, language skills and physical behaviour.

To people with the condition the world can appear chaotic with no clear boundaries, order or meaning.

It varies from mild to so severe that a person may be almost unable to communicate and need round-the-clock care.

Asperger syndrome is a milder form of autism, with symptoms that affect social interaction and behaviour.

Children with Asperger syndrome are often of average or above intelligence, and may be particularly good at learning facts and figures.

However, they may also lack imagination and find creative play or thinking in the abstract very difficult.

My friends little boy, who is three years old, has just been diagnosed with Asperger syndrome. For the longest time, the doctor kept telling her that he was going through a "stage" and would outgrow it. Things kept getting worse so she decided to take him for a second opinion. Thank goodness she did and she is now is being trained on how to deal with it and help her son.

Do you know anyone who has Autism or Asperger syndrome?

I have Asperger's. Diagnosed late in life (45 +).

I did actually, Neb. I always knew I was different.

My introduction to the condition was in a terrific 2013 mini-series movie on TV, The Bridge. Asperger's was a big part of the leading lady's problems, accomplishments, and eventual success in the show. :)
