How do you feel about forums that automatically merge your post into the last one (if you were the last poster in the thread)?

No problem as long as there was a time limit.

If it's a reply within 24 hours sure I'm OK if it merged but if I was to have an advertisement topic for a forum or website and wanted to bump it every couple of days I would expect it to start a new reply instead of merging.

Yeah, it's ok for within 24 hours, but after that it doesn't matter so much. Same with smaller forums, it's not such a big deal if they do or don't double post.

I have seen it with indefinite timelines on other forums. Meaning a user could never bump a topic if they were the last one to post in any particular thread. It encourages members to create a new thread on the subject. If an admin has employed the auto-merge add-on to avoid double posts, then why would they encourage multiple threads on the same subject?

As for me, I don't care. If I see some posts that need to be merged then I'll do it on a case by case basis.

There is/was plugins on forums that allowed that to happen. At this point in time I don't care if you double or triple post on my own forum or any. Such an outdated practice IMO.

I can think of 4 or 5 forums off the top of my head who use them. Its frustrating on promotion forums because you can never bump your advert thread :P
