An automated Japanese restaurant without waiters could be a glimpse into the future of dining.

Customers can choose their meal from a touchscreen next to each table, with their choices being sent straight to the kitchen.

Chefs then place the dishes on a conveyor belt which takes them straight to the table.

When finished, diners put their dirty plates through a chute leading to a dishwasher.

The number of empty plates is calculated automatically and is used to generate the bill.

What do you think about this automated restaurant idea?

Shades of the past, indeed.
