What do you think about background music for websites? Would you use background music on your website or forum?

To me one of the most unattractive things for a website or forum is background music. Whenever I visit a forum where the first thing I hear is this obnoxious background music I immediately want to leave. It also gets annoying when I have something else playing at the time.

Never came across a forum that has background music. If I did and didn't like the music, I would just mute it.

I hate it when a site decides to make some sound on its own, so no, I wouldn't implement it myself.

Same here. I would never use it. It's obnoxious.

Some websites like photobucket have autoplay advertisements which you can't mute. They do this to force you to listen to the ad until it's over.

Is there no way to block those adverts?

I've never been to a forum that has background music. o.O

BUT if I wanted to add that to my forum, it'd be some soothing jazz.

They run ads designed to autoplay and they prevent you from closing it. Youtube does the autoplay ads but those not prevent you from closing it. Other websites force this on you although it is understandable. They rely on ads to generate revenue and keep the site up. If you mute or skip through the ads then you are not really getting the message.

I don't hear anything as my speakers are always off!

I've done the background music before way back in the day. Got tired of it after awhile though.

Background music on a forum or website is annoying and overall a pointless feature. That's all I can say here.

I used to see those music players on forum portal pages (and on the forums themselves) a lot back in the day (4+ years ago). Seems like they have died off for the most part. Seems like nowadays, simplicity is the most attractive to people.

I really hate it because I have my speakers quite high and if it's one which auto plays I serious jump and tab my knee into the sharp parts of my desk. I've muted my browsers now though, so it doesn't happen as often!
