Another really annoying one is when I say something, I've got to add another syllable to make sure what I have said is an even number of syllables. Does anybody else have this problem and does anybody know what that habit is called?

Do you count other peoples syllables too when they speak to you? Do you count steps as you're walking up them?

Genie said:Sometimes I count their syllables and I say Hm in my throat to add another one. Sometimes I count my steps and for some reason I feel the urge to always end up with my last step being my right foot going to the floor, otherwise I have to tap the floor with my other foot. Ugh, it's annoying.

Obsessiveâcompulsive disorder (OCD) is an anxiety disorder characterized by intrusive thoughts that produce anxiety, by repetitive behaviors aimed at reducing anxiety, or by a combination of such thoughts (obsessions) and behaviors (compulsions). Symptoms may include repetitive hand-washing; extensive hoarding; preoccupation with sexual or aggressive impulses, or with particular religious beliefs; aversion to odd numbers; and nervous habits, such as constant checking to see if something is locked, checking a device or appliance to ensure it is turned off, opening a door and closing it a certain number of times before one enters or leaves a room.
