To me, I don't want to infringe on the 2nd amendment, but do we really need assault rifles in the hands of citizens? What use could you use that type of weapon for? I mean you won't hunt with it, and other than hunting, you don't need it. Using it for protection is a little over board as a 9mm will do the job. What do you think?[/background]

I completely agree. You need an assault rifle like I need a tank in my front yard.

Banning ARs won't infringe upon your rights, you can still have guns, just ones you could actually use for something other than killing people.

I don't get why you have to need it in order to have it. The only reason they are pushing for these limited bans on guns is to work people into liking the idea that they don't need any at all and once that gets passed(a total gun ban) is the day you sign away your rights. Do you really think this government really cares about the people anymore? If they did then they would not need to wait for a shooting to go ahead with this as they would have passed it regardless of what is going on. Why do these politicians need to see a bunch of dead bodies come out of a school before putting forth such a bill to prevent gun violence?

No criminal has ever gave two shits about any laws that get passed so they will just laugh while the civilians become defenseless and therefore become little more then easy money to criminals. Don't just look at this one bill as being the end of it because it won't be if it passes.

Yes, go ahead and educate the dirty liberals. Keep in mind that just because we don't agree with you, that doesn't mean we aren't educated and don't know what we're talking about.

I say your thinly veiled insults towards gun right supporters speaks volumes towards the ignorance and arrogance you shown here. The only thing Jazzy wanted to do is to show you her point of view through the eyes of another and you go and spit hatred at her for it and somehow you are the smart one. An educated person is one who stands for one side yet shows respect towards those who stand for something else.

Debates aren't only about beating the other side down with your POV but to take in the POV of others which can even shape your own.

The anti gun crowd will never remove guns from this world without a broad consensus from every nation on Earth so the only thing we can truly do is to educate gun owners on proper gun safety and handling while ensuring that those who wish to do us harm are kept from owning a gun as best as we can. The truth is that as long as guns exist, it means there is always a risk that you may end up a victim of gun violence but then again when has life ever been without its risks?

I wasn't insulting anyone, I was actually responding to the thinly veiled insults of others. Get it right.

I still wish to know which of the recent crimes a ban on the ownership of semi-automatic rifles would have prevented.

Adam Lanza used a semi-automatic 30-round assault rifle. James Holmes used a 100-round assault rifle. Eduardo Sencion used a 30-round assault rifle. Robert Hawkins used an assault rifle with 2 30-round clips. Chai Veng used a 20-round assault rifle.

You don't need an AK-47 or an AR-15 for protection.

More Nebulous:

“Common sense facts are these assault weapons are unnecessary and dangerous weapons that put our law enforcement personnel at risk,” Biden said. “You guys know a lot of departments around the country. I’ve been working with the police agencies for 35 years. I am going to say something outrageous: You’ve had no better friend over the last 35 years than me.

“We have to speak for all those voices, speak for those 20 beautiful children, who died 69 days ago, 12 miles from here,” the vice president added to applause.

When the liberals say they are not coming for your hunting guns, don't believe them:

DENVER (CBS4) – A popular hunting shotgun could be banned under one of the bills moving through the state Capitol.

A pump or semi-automatic shotgun is the gun most hunters in Colorado use. It’s a gun state Sen. Greg Brophy, R-Wray, says could be banned under a bill that’s already passed the House and Gov. John Hickenlooper says he’ll sign.

I think this is the video that Doc posted that got whacked by a copyright claim.
Ah thanks.

Uhm, whatever weapon this woman might have had wouldn't have been an assault rifle, surely?
