Don'tyou hate forum bandwagoning? Like when someone makes a successful forum using a unique idea, or an idea that hasn't been done in a while; everyone else makes the same exact one.

Yeah, I've seen it before. Now, I must say, I don't mind someone starting a forum in the same genre, as long as it's not a pure duplicate of an already existing forum. For example, I've seen people copy another forum word for word. It's not that alarming or anything, because most don't last long. However, I don't mind people creating a forum that's similar in genre, as long as it's different. Two grocery stores may be similar, but they have different items and a different setup. That's how I view forums.

It can be annoying.

Doesn't have to be a whole forum.. It could just be an idea. Ive came up with unique idea's and implemented them on my forums before, then a couple days later I see it being introduced on competitor forums.

However its going to be done and nothing is going to stop it so its best to just not get too worked up over it and focus on your own forum.

Let the imitaters imitate. Let the innovators innovate.

Nice. That's actually a very clever remark. I'll probably use that sooner or later. I remember at FA when someone literally copied your forum cloud script lol Then you called them out of it and I forgot what happened, but it is still funny how people think they can steal someone's work and get away with it.

Yea I feel you, but what about not word for word, but the same skin, genre, and layout? Like the layout is the same but the names of the forums and forum descriptions are different. I'm saying this, because I made a general chat board 2 days ago, and when I signed in to the forum I advertised it on there was a forum similar to it. And the main reason I decided to make a chat board was because there weren't many being made at the time, but 2 days after I made mine there were also 3 other chat boards that just opened being advertised too.

Chances are those boards will fail. General chat is a hard genre to sustain. There is a billion of them out there, way too much competition to stay afloat. If you are lucky, your members will form bonds/friendships with each other and will want to keep coming back to chat with their friends. If you are really lucky, those members will be really welcoming of new comers and make them want to stick around.. Before you know it you have a community.

It's like this. Let's say you like McDonald's chicken nuggets. So you get hooked on their nuggets. Now, let's say that Burger King starts making nuggets that are similar to McDonald's chicken nuggets, but they're just not the same as the original. That's basically forum bandwagoning in a nutshell. People will always want the original and will probably shy away from imitators. Another example would be Coke vs BigK. Do you want the real thing or the imitator?

Loved this comment. Also good point Jughead. Nebulous you just perfectly explained how a forum is built. I realized that exact same thing not to long ago. Building a community takes patience. Strong Bonds don't develop over night.
