The Bay Bridge is uncharacteristically empty these past couple days, still closed after steel rods failed during high winds Tuesday, raining 5,000 pounds of metal on motorists. Three vehicles were damaged but no one was seriously injured.

Now you dont know how many people use that bridge and work in the city (San Francisco). Thousands and thousand and thousands of people were unable to get to work by their car. They were forced to rely on public transportation. There is a subway system (call the bart) that runs under the ocean. They added on the maximum amount of trains to and opened it up for free yesterday. People could also take a ferry across the water or they could drive the long way around (by taking other bridges that are far away and that would take hours with all the extra traffic).

The bridge may reopen soon. People have been working around the clock trying to get it fixed. My only concern is, they are under a lot of pressure to get it done as quick as possible, so they might just put a band aide on it so this could happen again soon.

Oh wow! I heard about that. It seems like it'd be tough to get to and from work.

Oh, by the way (kind of off topic...), but does the bart stand for Bay Area Rapid Transit?? We have a dart in Dallas called Dallas Area Rapid Transit.
