Ty Warner to pay $53M to settle tax evasion charges

Ty Warner, the Chicago-area billionaire who created Beanie Babies, has agreed to plead guilty to federal tax evasion and pay a $53.5 million penalty for allegedly failing to report income in a secret offshore bank account.

Warner, 69, of west suburban Oak Brook, was charged Wednesday morning in U.S. District Court, according to a court statement.
