Before 40

Save for retirement, buy a house, have good credit.

3 strikes and I'm out! I got 10 years to fix all that. :P

Well actually I have been putting into a retirement plan for almost 8 years now.

I've got good credit and I'm saving a small, small portion of money, just...not able to put much into it since I'm barely able to pay all my bills. A house is veeeerrrry far out in the future, though.

Good question.. I don't know about women in the workplace but for men, you need to be well on your way in career development. In business if you are not in management by the time you are 40 you most likely will never be, and as a result if you are not in some kind of management role it makes it a lot harder for men to get career oriented jobs after they are 40.

I have terrible credit and the retirement plan I am putting into is a mandatory deduction from my check every month. Its not like I went out of my way to be responsible, they made me. :P

Part of me wishes my job would do that. I CAN do it with a 401k, but I don't know how much longer I'll be there and I'm part-time so I get no benefits whatsoever, aside from an optional 401k.
