I want to learn French. I have tried a few times, for example Duolingo, but I sizzle out. Does anyone have suggestions?

Dont try to learn too much in one go and start with simple words ... practice everyday, even if just few words ... try to read a lot in that language .... listen to the music in that language to get used to ...

IF funds and schedule allow, hire a good private tutor.
If there is a community college within reach, you might check for classes in the subject.

I wish there was just an SD card I could insert. However, I want to actually experience the learning part, so I can reflect on that memory (if that makes any sense)

There's an app called Memrise which you can use to learn any language in the world. Once you start getting the basics of the language, you can start watching movies of the same language to see how much you are able to catch. Initially keep the subtitles off, whenever you fail to understand something, turn on the subtitle, understand what they were saying and then turn it off again. This is a very effective way to learn any language.

Watch children's shows in the language you want to learn. Use note cards to stick all around your home to label items and so on and so forth.

Private tutors are a fantastic way to learn, but very pricey. Music worked well for me, start simple and watch children's TV shows, as was suggested, that's another good area to start in. It takes time and dedication to learn a language, there's no hack to it but to stick with it!

I've always discussed this on forums and in person. I used to be an English tutor for Engoo company giving classes to Asian students. They have quite bad verbal skills because the teachers are from their own country. Doing online classes gives them chance to speak with foreigners and practice in such way. That being said, the best to learn a language is to actually use it with native speaker.

Duolingo language learning application is going to be what I'm going recommend for you to make use of when it comes to learning any language. They have even high valyrian language learning resources in the application. I have used it to learn Spanish and Portuguese.

Keep repeating units and lessons in Duolingo, that way it is much more rewarding when you get to a new unit, you will have a good understanding of the supplemental terms and phrases that they use in combination with the new ones. And if you don't know, the lessons have a comment area so you can see what other users have had questions about and discussed. I also suggest diving into the media from the language such as music, shows, Youtube videos, comments, blogs, etc. You'll find yourself remembering the translations instantly for certain things. Even if it's just a couple words here and there, that is some big progress. Try to acknowledge those smaller achievements to help you build the habit of keeping an interest.
