Beyonce has released a digital-only album to the surprise of her fans.

The pop star's fifth, self-titled album, which features 17 videos as well as 14 songs, is only available to download.

It includes tracks from Drake, Frank Ocean and her husband Jay Z, while the final song, Blue, features her daughter Blue Ivy.

Beyonce said the digital record, which is described as an "exclusive visual album", allows her to "speak directly" to her fans.

"I didn't want to release my music the way I've done it (before). I'm bored with that," the singer said.

"I feel like I'm able to speak directly to my fans.

"There's so much that gets between the music, the artist and the fans.

"I felt like I didn't want anybody to give the message when my record is coming out.

"I just want this to come out when it's ready and (for it to be) from me to my fans."

The album went on sale on iTunes on the same day it was announced, in what Apple described as "an unprecedented strategic move".

The tactic allows Beyonce "to deliver music and visual content directly to her fans when she wants to and how she wants to, with no filter", the company said.

Your thoughts on her digital-only album?

Will you be downloading it?

Cool. It'll be free? She has so much money by now that she doesn't need to release a CD in hopes to make more money.

No, it is not free: download BEYONCÉ for $15.99 at iTunes.

:lame:

Lots of good bands have been posting their music for free online for years, but not in the pop music industry... What's the point of a digital only album anyway if it's not free? *Surprise* You now can't have a physical version of the CD but pay just as much. Doesn't make much sense.

Just downloaded it, I'll post back tomorrow with my opinion. :)

Big fan of her so hoping that it's a decent album.

It's the Illuminati!

This is the future...

Same way that blockbuster dissolved... The digital age...

Blockbuster dissolved from those RedBox vending machines that still let people rent physical copies of DVD's. :P

Forgot to get back to y'all on this, it's a great album, a bit explicit, but good nonetheless
