(The Guardian) Biden speaks on Inflation Reduction Act
Joe Biden is about to deliver a hastily arranged address about the Inflation Reduction Act, the White House says.
Biden: 'Most significant legislation in history to tackle climate crisis'
Joe Biden hailed the Inflation Reduction Act as “the most significant legislation in history to tackle the climate crisis” in a White House address welcoming the wide-ranging legislative package.

The president outlined the benefits to Americans during his remarks, which followed the surprise announcement of a deal last night between Democratic Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer and holdout West Virginia senator Joe Manchin. -- This bill will be the most significant legislation in history to tackle the climate crisis and improve our energy security right away, and give us a tool to meet the climate goals... we’ve agreed to by cutting emissions and accelerating clean energy. It’s a huge step forward.

This bill will reduce inflationary pressures on the economy. It will cut your cost of living and reduce inflation, it lowers the deficit and strengthens our economy for the long run as well.

This bill has won the support of climate leaders like former vice-president Al Gore, who said the bill is, quote, long overdue and a necessary step to ensure the United States takes decisive action on the climate crisis that helps our economy and provides leadership for the world.

Climate activists have broadly welcomed the bill which, if passed by Congress, would give Biden a massive victory ahead of November’s midterms. Inflation at 40-year highs and soaring prices in supermarkets and at gas pumps have contributed to the president’s low approval ratings.

It also follows months of stalling on Biden’s agenda, specifically by Manchin, who didn’t like the cost of $1.8tn Build Back Better spending package featuring measures like extended child tax credit.

Biden acknowledged: This bill is far from perfect. I know the bill doesn’t include everything that I’ve been pushing for since I got to office. For example, I’m going to keep fighting to bring down the cost of things for working families and middle class families by providing for things like affordable childcare, affordable elder care, the cost of preschool, housing, helping students with the cost of college, closing the health care coverage gap...

My message to Congress is this. This is the strongest bill you can pass to lower inflation, cut the deficit, reduce health care costs, tackle the climate crisis and promote energy security, all the time while reducing the burdens facing working class and middle class families.

So pass it. Pass it for the American people. Pass it for America.

(The Guardian) Setting the stage for a week full of reconciliation talk, Joe Biden tweets his support for the reconciliation bill - officially known as the Inflation Reduction Act - from quarantine.

Punchbowl News pointed out in this morning’s newsletter that the Joint Committee on Taxation disproved Biden’s promise to never to raise taxes on any Americans making less than $400,000 annually - the Joint Committee on Taxation estimated that the bill has about $16.7bn worth of tax increases for this demographic. “The mislabeled ‘Inflation Reduction Act’ will do nothing to bring the economy out of stagflation and recession, but it will raise billions of dollars in taxes on Americans making less than $400,000,” said Idaho senator Mike Crapo, the top Republican on the senate finance committee.

Democrats have responded that the JCT analysis failed to factor in several elements of the legislation. “A family making less than $400,000 will not pay one penny in additional taxes under the Inflation Reduction Act,” said Ashley Schapitl, a spokesperson for senate finance committee Democrats. “The analysis Republicans are pointing to is also incomplete. It doesn’t include the benefits to middle-class families of making health insurance premiums and prescription drugs more affordable. The same goes for clean energy incentives for families.”

I don't remember that promise. I remember Biden saying he was going to raise taxes. I heard that loud and clear. He's going to make you PAY! PAY! PAY!

He was right then and he's right now.

What this crap bill does is subsidize the rich and who want electric cars and all the crappy green energy that doesn’t work. Not only does it increase inflation with money we don’t have it puts all the burden on the middle class to pay for it. And gives the democrats a 400 billion dollar slush fund.
We’re so close to having enough states for a constitutional convention. It’s literally the only thing that’s going to save America from a complete collapse.

A constitutional convention vs. a societal collapse?

Go societal collapse!

Term limits for elected officials and federal employees in upper levels of power.

One thing on each proposed bill/law. Not multiple things for payoffs.

Bills/laws with a limited number of words so it can actually be read and understood.

Absolutely make it clear that the 2nd amendment is absolute and no gun can be banned.

These are some of the things on the amendment.

14 states to go.

Term limits for elected officials
Why not; we already took the power of voters to decide their representative via partisan gerrymandering...
and federal employees in upper levels of power
IOW, screw civil service rules then, huh?

No argument there.
