NEWTON (CBS) – Aaron Golub of Newton South High School has pinpoint accuracy when it comes to long snapping the football.

The 17-year-old is legally blind, but that hasn’t stopped him from being the starting long snapper for the past two years for the football team. “I just love the sport, always have,” Golub said.

His coach says he is a great athlete. “In football long snapping is one of the most important positions on the field so he felt he could do it,” Coach Ted Dalicandro said.

Aaron uses his target net to practice every morning before school and on weekends. “It’s been difficult you have to adjust to different things on field,” Golub said.

His coach says he’s very accurate. “He’s only had one bad snap in the last two years he’s snapped for us. He’s best long snapper I’ve seen on the high school level,” his coach said.

Now Golub is ready to take it a different level. He is now on his way to play for Tulane University. Playing Division 1 college ball is a life-long dream. “If you set your mind to it you can do it. There’s nothing you can’t accomplish if you really want to do it,” Golub said.

That quote sums it up perfectly.

No matter what disability that lead to blindness, such as cataracts, glaucoma, or macular degeneration, nothing can hold you back.

But, then again, blind athletes in college sports are a rare find these days.
