(Reuters) - Suspected Boko Haram gunmen kidnapped more than 100 women and children and killed 35 other people on Sunday during a raid on the remote northeast Nigerian village of Gumsuri, a security source and resident said on Thursday.

Although no one has claimed it yet, the attack bore the hallmarks of Boko Haram, which abducted more than 200 women in April from a secondary school in Chibok, only 24 km (15 miles) from this latest attack.

Its campaign for an Islamic state by Boko Haram, whose name means "Western education is sinful", has become the gravest threat to Africa's biggest economy and top oil producer.

I might get ripped for this, but everytime I read about another terrorist act by radical Islamists, part of me just wants to see the West go all Crusader on that part of the world....and damn if it wouldn't be a good thing at times for that to happen too.

I went looking for a united, perhaps even multinational, forceful condemnation of these sorts of attacks on civilians from ranking Islamic leaders instead of the occasional "bad boy, don't do that again" from various local Imams and such.

Guess what?

I second that thought. And then give power to all the women in that region and make muslim men the slaves if they females so choose.

In all honesty, I think the terrorists would love that: it'd provide them with a lot more recruits, donations and popular support. Even those who detest Islamic terrorists would be likely to see them as the lesser of two evils at that point, due to the sheer numbers of innocent civilians who would inevitably get caught up in such a 'crusade' (especially once 'excess deaths' due to increased lawlessness and loss of infrastructure are factored in).

I'm afraid I fail to see any upside to it: it'd be like the Iraq War, but scaled up to cover the entire Middle East. (And well beyond, too: "the entire Middle East" is still thousands of miles from Nigeria)

Our we could just wall up the whole of the region (sans' Israel), let them beat each other to a pulp...and every so often, throw in some instant sunshine to liven the place up...

It would seem that at least some of The People have had enough of it.

It is about damn time! Good to see some opposition for once in the streets on the right side of the fight.

Well you just ruined any positive I was getting from that. ;)

Cameroon's air force has bombed Boko Haram positions in the Far North province of the country for the first time after the armed group from neighbouring Nigeria seized a military camp, the government has said.

President Paul Biya personally ordered Sunday's air strike, which forced the Boko Haram fighters to flee the camp at Assighasia, Communications Minister Issa Tchiroma Bakary said in a statement late on Sunday.

"Fighter planes went into action for the first time since the start of the conflict" on Cameroon's side of the border, after several months of deadly raids on troops and civilians by Boko Haram, Bakary added.

"After two strikes and heavy fire ... the assailants fled the Assighasia camp, ... losing several fighters," the minister said, adding that military operations were still under way and that "the toll from combat will be released once the operational evaluation is complete".

A Boko Haram squad attacked the Assighasia camp on Sunday morning and the "Cameroonian defence forces had to withdraw after trying to defend the position", the government statement said.

Every day Muslims, Imams, Sheikhs and Scholars.
I don't know if this is like a 'community secret' or something, but we are CONSTANTLY denouncing acts of terror.

It just doesn't sell papers.
We don't have a voice because it's not what riles up the public.

Boko Haram kills 70 civilians, burn mosque

5 Feb
BOKO Haram fighters killed nearly 70 civilians and six soldiers in an onslaught on the Cameroon border town of Fotokol, on Wednesday, a Cameroon security source told AFP.

“There are many (dead) civilians, nearly 70. The toll for the soldiers stands at six,” said the source in Fotokol, adding that there were also Boko Haram bodies “everywhere.”

The attack came a day after Chad sent troops across the border to flush the jihadists out of the Nigerian town of Gamboru, which lies some 500 metres (yards) from Fotokol on the other side of a bridge.

Chad’s army said it had killed more than 200 Boko Haram militants in the intervention, the first by regional forces against Boko Haram on its home ground.

But some of the insurgents escaped and slipped back across the border into Fotokol at dawn to make a fresh stand.

We don't have a voice because it's not what riles up the public.

Then keep raising your voices then, my friend...make them hear a moderate voice, by God. Also, start calling out the radicals in your community; make 'em know you won't tolerate them, then.
