Bringing back a forum you used to run/own?

I have mentioned how I did run a old Harvest Moon forum in 2009-2010. I'd like to revive that same sort of a forum but in 2022. I think now there's more room for growth since so many of those sites have shut down and/or converted to like a wiki or Discord server or subreddit. I, however, don't want my forum to be on Reddit or Discord.

I'd either like to use the old domain or a new domain. I was thinking of using the actual new name Story of Seasons instead.

So the series is actually Japanese. In Japan, it's called Bokujo Monogatari. Bokujo Monogatari is developed by Marvelous. It used to be localized overseas by Natsume, under the name Harvest Moon. Then Natsume broke off their deal from Marvelous, but kept the name "Harvest Moon" in the west. Natsume started making their own games under the name. So, the new games called Harvest Moon are actually just a new series by Natsume, unrelated to Marvelous' older Japanese ones. The new games in the Bokujo Monogatari series are now called Story of Seasons in the west.

So now that I explained that..

Has anyone brought back a forum they ran many years ago and seen success or semi-success? I am starting 100 percent over, so not using an old database etc.

You’re on a forum that did that exact thing right now as we speak! 😛

Starting over from zero might be harder because you’re basically creating a new forum and just recycling the name. If you still have access to your old forum (I think you said it’s on tapatalk now) it will be useful to email all your old members and let them know they’ll have to re-register if they’re interested.

Yup. I am gonna do that. I still have access to my old account and it's email. I may send an interest check first perhaps. Better idea even! Since there's so many games inspired by the series perhaps running a forum to discuss and provide tips/hints for ALL of those sorts...? Hmmm... lol

Edit: Oh and won't be bringing back the RP/RPG thing this time either.

My wife is a huge Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons fan so if you do ever bring back your old fan site I will let her know about it! I've never actually tried to revive one of my old forums before. I've thought about maybe trying to bring back Mighty No. 9 Universe, because I think I still have an old database of the forum on one of my laptops. But then again, I don't think anyone would be interested in the community coming back, since the game was terrible and many backers never got the game on their platform of choice...

I don't think anyone would be interested in my forum either in 2022. I feel like I'd have a maybe better chance since so many of the bigger sites shut down or converted to being a subreddit, Discord server, and/or a wiki. This was one of my more successful forums I ever admined/owned back then. I in a way wish I never closed it, but seeing what happened to Zetaboards... yeah..
I used to be on HMOtaku all the time till they closed so many years ago. I am also talking actual discussion forums, help forms, etc and not RP/RPG forums related to the series. You see those come and go too still I think.
We will see! I may bring it back as that maybe a better idea than just 'general gaming forum'.

Yep! I had over 100 members, and thousands of posts. It was my most successful forum, I did open it before the official forums opened though. This was also before Discord existed too.

The official forums just overshadowed mine, so once activity ceased and the game kept getting delayed, I just stopped paying for premium on Jcink. (It originally started on ProphpBB, then I moved it to IPB cloud, and lastly Jcink.) Now most people agree Mighty No. 9 was a failure, and there's really no reason to bring back my old forum. Especially knowing the subreddit is dead as well. xD

What does paying for premium get you?

I had some 18+ boards, premium allows the 18+ content to be posted. Otherwise I would have to remove the 18+ section if I wanted to use their free service.

I am in the process of getting the domain sometime soon. I don't think I'll have the money for XenForo at first, tbh. It may need to be on a free forum software like MyBB or phpBB3.

Also prolly will see about gfx work for a logo anyway and I never truly bothered with like anything beyond the logo. I don't mind/care if the icons were harvest moon or story of seasons themed.

I havent revived any boards.
I had a go with Moley on Mokata but that was 5 or 6 years back but it didnt really take off.
There is so many forums I would love to bring back that I was apart of. A forum that I was an original Admin of id bring back?
Probably JustGFX, I miss the gang I had there which eventually led into it merging with GForce which became pretty big.
