A calf which lost both of its rear hooves in freezing weather is back on its feet - thanks to two new legs.
Hero the calf was taken in by the Selah Ranch All Animal Rescue, after losing its rear hooves to frostbite in Augusta County, Virginia.
Kitty Martin, owner and founder of the rescue centre, managed to persuade a prosthetics company to make Hero some new ones, reports NBC29.
And Glenn Easton, president of Limb Care Orthotics and Prosthetics, flew from his base in New Jersey to fit them.
Along with his frozen hooves, Hero also endured widespread infections, open wounds, constant bandage changes and exposed bones.
Ms Martin said: "I've had people think I'm nuts - totally flipped my lid over this, but he had it so rough in the beginning. He needed a fair shot in life."
And she said that seeing him take his first steps with his new legs was like: "Christmas, anniversary, best days in your life, having kids, all rolled up in to one."
