Creeping silently into the lion's den this homemade remote controlled camera gets closer to the king of the jungle than most would ever dare.

On the plains of the Masai Mara, these intimate images were captured thanks to a piece of British ingenuity.

The remote-controlled device, complete with a Canon 1Ds Mark III, is the brainchild of brothers William and Matthew and Burrard-Lucas from London.

Back in 2009 the brothers designed and built the very first BeettleCam, testing it out in Tanzania, before returning with the new and improved BeetleCam Mark II.

Controlling BeetleCam from the back of an open-top jeep, the brothers were able to infiltrate a group of seven lion cubs and a male adult lion.
