I tried college and work in the past and both have caused me too much stress and anxiety so I had to leave.

I'd like to know, is it possible to become independent even without school or work?

Work has caused me and will continue to cause me anxiety and stress at times but I am still going to go in each day and do my best.

You need an income to live on your own of that's what you are asking. If you dont want to work and are disabled, you can get government assistance I suppose.

If you're disabled, you generally can't be independent anyway.

If you look at the definition of independent: not relying on another or others for aid or support the answer to your question is no.
